No no Starbrander - these guys are suffering post traumatic stress disorder.

Sadly we had a very distressing incident played out live on TV news yesterday. A Barrister (a lawyer who represents you in court - they are separate people here in Britain) who earned half a million pounds a year and was tipped to become a judge, suddenly snapped - shooting randomly out of his house in London, at Police and his neighbour - committed "suicide by Police" - they shot him dead at the scene. It turns out that he was a member of the Territorial Army (a reservist force) who's duties in Iraq had pushed him into a breakdown and although he left in 2002, he was suffering PTSD.

12,000 veterans is probably an underestimate, I suspect the figures are far higher.

I agree with Nessie...the numbers have to be higher than that!! PTSD is horrible for these men and women because they have never seen so much killing, especially children, or made to kill someone before which sends them over the edge...not to mention seeing their friends murdered/shot/mutilated in front of them...that much blood and gore would send anyone off the deep end. Most people don't experience that kind of stuff in their life time...until they are in combat. So, I think that the 12K is very underestimated by a long shot!

It's awful, these men and women who served our country come home to be abandoned by their own government. I was watching a new story one time about how hard it is to get treatment for their disabilities or PTSD after they return home. It's sad! They all risk their lives just to be shut out by some people. They go through too much. I know my thoughts are prayers always go out to them
